I'm Connected

PCSwizz Answers are real computer questions from my readers, clients and anyone in need. I share many of them with you, my readers, to hopefully save you any headaches with your computer!

Question: “I am unable to log onto the internet. The Diagnose Connection Problem says I need to verify the current proxy server configuration. HELP PLEASE!!! :)”

Answer: This is happening to you because Internet Explorer is looking for a proxy server when there isn’t one to find! Here’s how we fix this:

  • Open up Internet Explorer, click Tools, then Internet Options.
  • Click on the Connections Tab and look for LAN settings.
  • Check the “Automatically Detect Settings” box and uncheck the "Use a proxy server for your LAN".
  • Click Ok then restart Internet Explorer. You should be good to go!

Image via PCWorldTired of right-clicking picture after picture of pictures from your friend’s party you went to last night? If you use Firefox, which you should be, then install the FacePAD add-on to simplify your picture saving.

FacePAD saves full photo albums on Facebook with one click, saving you tons of time. Once you’ve installed FacePAD, using it is a breeze. To use FacePAD, navigate to the album you would like to download, right-click the link of the album and choose “Download Album with FacePAD”. That’s it! The entire photo album will be downloaded to your Firefox Downloads folder.

The only drawback is that you cannot specify where you can download the albums, but only a small issue to the huge time you’ve saved.

Similar to the “lol, is this you” attack, this new(but not so new) phishing attempt on Twitter sends a DM with “This you??” with a link that you should NOT click. Ever.

Take 30 seconds and change your Twitter password if you haven’t in a while.

Although remote support is a great tool for a computer geek like myself, there are some things that I cannot do online. Here are the pros and cons of remote computer support:

pcswizz_cs_colorupdateToo many of you are getting viruses that can easily be avoided if you had a working antivirus program! Not to mention the amount of spyware most of you have. I’m not even going to talk about how open your computer is to attacks from hackers on the internet; your firewalls aren’t working!

This week only, allow me to check and optimize your antivirus program and firewall for FREE! Only fans of my Fan Page can get this offer, so don’t hesitate to hit the “Become a Fan” button or click the big blue button at the bottom of this post. This is done online personally by yours truly for your convenience, so you really have no excuse not to make sure your computer is protected!

Mashable is reporting in that a phishing attack is going around through direct messages on Twitter. The direct message says, “lol, is this you” and includes a link named “bzpharma”. If you get this direct message, please do NOT click the link and delete the message!

If you just have to click the link(which I know curiosity gets the best of us!) do NOT enter ANY information whatsoever. If you do enter your information, your Twitter account will be taken over by spammers. So DON’T DO IT!
